I remember as a child, wondering who would write songs with words such as Diddly-i-Dum-Dum !

I have only recently found out that there is another term for something similar, called ‘Port A Beul’. Both were types of vocal performance used in Scotland. and were ways of accompanying dances, when no musical instruments were available! Diddling was the name in the Lowlands, while Port A Beul was what it was called in the Highlands.

Another great mystery solved !

…but I wonder is any University offering a degree in diddling?
